In today’s world sustainability and environmental responsibility are more important than ever. One area where we can make a significant impact is in our choice of fire extinguishers. Traditional fire extinguishers often contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. However, environmentally friendly fire extinguishers offer a safer and more sustainable alternative. Here are some key benefits of making the switch.

  1. Reduced Environmental Impact

Traditional AFFF fire extinguishers often contain long lasting chemicals sometimes known as forever chemicals (PFAS). These can contribute to environmental contamination and global warming. Environmentally friendly fire extinguishers use alternative agents that are less harmful to the environment but remain effective in putting out fires.

  1. Safer Human Health

Many traditional fire extinguishers contain chemicals that can be harmful to human health if inhaled or come into contact with human skin. Environmentally friendly options, such as those using water or enviroFoam, are generally safer for both the user and anyone nearby. This reduces the risk of respiratory issues and skin irritation.

  1. Compliance with Regulations

As environmental regulations become stricter, using eco-friendly fire extinguishers can help businesses and individuals stay compliant. Many countries are phasing out the use of harmful chemicals in fire suppression systems, so switching to environmentally friendly options can ensure you are ahead of the curve and avoid potential fines or penalties.

  1. Positive Corporate Image

Using environmentally friendly fire extinguishers can enhance your corporate image. It demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, which can be appealing to customers, clients and stakeholders. It shows that your business is proactive in reducing its environmental footprint.

  1. Cost-Effective in the Long Run

While the initial cost of environmentally friendly extinguishers may be higher, they are more cost-effective in the long run. The potential savings from avoiding environmental fines and health related costs can make them a wise investment.

Conclusion

Whilst having these extinguishers is not the law yet our company is aware that the Environmental Agency are looking at the use of long lasting chemicals sometimes known as forever chemicals in fire extinguishers. Our view is that these will be banned in time, so as part of our due diligence and integrity we are advising and acting now so we ensure our customers are ahead of the curve. Switching to environmentally friendly fire extinguishers is a smart choice for both the environment and your safety. They offer numerous benefits, from reducing environmental impact and improving health and safety to ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing your corporate image. By making this switch, you are contributing to a more sustainable future while still protecting yourself and those around you.

Our Range of Environmentally Friendly Fire Extinguishers

The current range of eco-friendly fire extinguishers comes under our Green Range.

CommanderEDGE enviroFoam Fluorine-Free Foam Fire Extinguishers

These extinguishers use fluorine-free firefighting foam, this is free from harmful PFAS (Polyfluoroalkyl Substances). These extinguishers are designed to tackle Class A and Class B fires effectively and they are environmentally friendly.

CommanderEdge LFX Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Extinguishers

Specifically designed to handle the unique dangers of Lithium-Ion battery fires, these extinguishers are also fluorine-free, making them a safer choice for the environment.

We Also Recycle Fire Extinguishers

All extinguishers we collect are sent to our supplier for recycling.  Did you know our supplier recycles between 25,000 to 30,000 extinguishers per month, whilst doing so they ensure that almost all components are reused, this significantly reduces landfill waste.

Our technician will complete a Waste Transfer Note (WTN) at the time of collection and this will detail what has been removed from site. The WTN should be retained for a minimum of two years.
